This month was a lot more productive in the writing department, a lot less productive in the reading department. But... here's what I got up to in October!
Writing
Word count: 27,553
Chapters completed: 7
Teaser:
“Rule of thumb, don’t throw away your only weapon,” he growled behind me. He thrust the hilt of a dagger into my hand. “Try not to lose this one.”
“I saved her life,” I muttered, flipping the blade.
“Focus on keeping yourself alive.”
Last month, I really struggled to get into the groove of my writing but October was a completely different story. It was like everything clicked into place. Yes, there were still chapters that felt like a slog to get through, but there were also really fun chapters that I flew through.
The closer I get to the midpoint, the more excited I get because that's where all my favourite scenes are! The story gets better and better as it goes along and, now that I'm out of the pesky first act and the worldbuilding and establishing of characters, I can now get into the super fun plot twists and relationship dynamics.
I have very much thrown my target word count out of the window, though. I've outlined 39 chapters in this book and estimated them to be roughly 3k words each, which would make my manuscript a total of 117k words long (which is already too long). But I am, of course, a chronic over-writer so each chapter is verging more on 5k words... which means I'm going to have a very very long book and one hell of a headache when I need to cut all of the words down.
But that's a problem for future me.
Books
Books read: 4
A Not So Meet-Cute - Meghan Quinn
The Blonde Identity - Ally Carter
Offside - Avery Keelan
Minor Detail - Adania Shibli
Favourite book: The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter
I am and forever will be a Gallagher Girl so an adult spy novel by Ally Carter was always going to be an instant obsession for me.
It is a road trip rom-com with a spy twist and it was so easy and fun to fall back into Ally Carter's writing style. I was a little disappointed there wasn't a Gallagher Girl cameo (every time an unnamed character was introduced, I convinced myself it was Cammie or Zach) but it was still a super enjoyable read.
Recommendations
TV/Movie: The Eras Tour Movie
I am very very predictable and I really really don't care. Yes, I have tickets to go see Taylor Swift in London next year but that wasn't going to stop me from seeing the concert movie in the cinema. It was worth every penny and, of course, as a Reputation and folklore girlie. they were my favourite eras to watch.
I also saw Crazy Stupid Love for this first time this month, though and really enjoyed it. Steve Carrell is brilliant as always and I love rom-coms that have lots of different characters that come together into a succinct plot.
Music: 1989 (Taylor's Version)
The majority of this month was me just sitting around and waiting for 1989 to come out. And when it did... on repeat. Every day.
Those were my highlights from this month - what did you get up to in October?!
